Know Before
You Go
-
Do I need to know how to swim?
Ideally you should know how to swim if you spend time near water. You will be wearing a Personal Flotation Device (PFD) which will keep you afloat if you fall in. The Boyne is waist-high in most places so you can just stand up when you go in.
-
Do I need to know how to kayak?
Our sit-on-top kayaks are designed for beginners so you don’t need to have kayaked before. We will run through the basics with you before you touch the water.
-
How long does the solo journey take?
Most people do this in roughly 3 hours. It depends if you prefer drifting through the scenery or attacking the rapids.
-
Can I get lost?
No, you cannot get lost. The route is all downstream so the current will take you all the way. You will have directions and a map showing landmarks. The finish point is unmistakable.
-
How do I get back to base?
Ring us when you are ready and our minibus brings you back to base
-
Are there changing rooms?
Yes, there are permanent changing rooms and toilets back at the riverside base.
-
Is there food available?
We have a fully covered outdoor coffee shop with benches overlooking the river where you chill out after getting changed. You can buy tea, coffee, ice-cream and snacks while you relax.
-
Is there parking?
We have limited parking but there is a large paid (€2 cash only) car park across the road from us.
-
Do I need to pre-book?
We recommend you do as kayaks are in hot demand.
-
Will the weather affect the activities?
Lightning is the only weather that you cannot travel in. Rain will cool you down ; )
-
Can I bring my phone on the boat?
We will provide you with a waterproof pouch for your phone.
