Know Before
You Go
-
Do I need to know how to swim?
Ideally you should be comfortable in water. You will be wearing a Personal Flotation Device (PFD) that will keep you afloat if you fall in. The Boyne is waist-high in most places so you can just stand up when you go in.
-
Do I need to know how to kayak?
Our sit-on-top kayaks are designed for beginners so you don’t need to have kayaked before. We will run through the basics with you before you get on the water.
-
Is it safe?
Playing in the outdoors does carry some risk. That is why all our guides are certified Canoeing Ireland instructors. If going solo there has to be at least two people with you. If you get into any difficulties, just ring us.
-
How long does it take to paddle the Boyne Blueway?
A guided trip will take roughly 2.5 hours. If going solo, most people take their time and it can take 4 hours.
-
Are there changing rooms?
Yes, there are permanent changing rooms and toilets available at our riverside base.
-
Is there food available?
We have a fully covered outdoor coffee shop with benches overlooking Swifts Wave where you can relax after your adventure. You can buy tea, coffee, ice-cream and snacks while you chill.
-
Is there parking?
We have limited parking but there is a large paid (€2 cash only) car park across the road from us.
-
Do I need to pre-book?
We recommend you do as places get snapped up very quickly
-
Will the weather affect the activities?
Lightning is the only weather that effects the Boyne Blueway. Rain will cool you down ; )
-
Can I bring my phone on the boat?
Not a good idea even if it is waterproof. Trust us.

-
What to do
Sign in at our office and then get kitted out for your activity.
-
What payment types are accepted on site?
We take both cash and contactless.
-
How do we return to base?

Health
A reasonable level of fitness is needed for the Boyne but you don’t have to have arms like an Olympian. The river does most of the work while you just need to paddle. Backrests are available on kayaks if you suffer from lower back pain and are planning the longer route down to Bective. Swallow your pride on this and request one, trust us.

Why explore the Boyne Blueway with us?
We are
central
Our riverside base is the easiest way to access 8km of pristine routes through a historical and beautiful landscape.
The Blueway
is our baby
We learned to kayak on its gentle waters and we have been bringing first-timers downriver for the last 10 years.
We are
local
We want to stay low impact and look after the Boyne without damaging the rest of the creatures that live here.
